Hundreds of competitors in approx over 50 teams battle it out on the river from 9.30 am to determine who makes it into the exciting eight boat final at about 4 pm for the Challenge Cup. Market stalls, sideshows and bouncy castles plus rides for the kids go to make this a fun filled day, that last year raised over £50,000 for various charities.
So come and join us for a fun packed day for all the family at one of the largest Dragon Boat events in the UK.
They offer educational, therapeutic and recreational cruises and activities on the River Thames for the young; for older people; and people of all ages with a disability or mental health condition. As well as regular day and residential cruises and
educational programmes, they help their clients plan bespoke cruises and activities especially suited to their group’s particular needs.
Over 20 years, they have shown that enjoying and learning about the river on board their specially adapted and wheelchair-accessible barge, Thames Venturer, is a very special experience, that brings relaxation, health and personal development benefits unique to the river setting – as shown by their many clients who rebook year after year.
They currently operate from the following locations: Kingston upon Thames, Teddington Lock, and Hermitage Community Moorings (Tower Bridge). Their Website: www.thamesboatproject.org Tel: 020 8940 3509
There is also an award for the team sporting the best headgear or costume.
If you wish to take part in the racing – no experience necessary and you will be given training (bouyancy aids, just in case).
Teams compete in three heats to determine the eight fastest boats.
Entries for 2017 are now closed but you can Contact Simon to be put on the email list for next year.
Otherwise please come along and enjoy the spectacle.
