We are raising money to enable people with dementia and their carers to sing together and to support other charities. Singing is becoming recognised as of great benefit to people with dementia. Singing sessions with them is a joyful experience and the Kingston Rotary Club wants spread the opportunities for this to happen by fundraising through the Big Sing.
The Big Sing will take place at All Saints Church, Kingston Market Place, Kingston upon Thames on 17th February from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm. It will be run by professional choir leaders with great experience of creating community choirs including some that have performed for the Queen and Princes Harry, Charles and William. We will sing a collection of accessible songs in glorious four part harmony. You’ll be amazed at how much we achieve in the short time. We will sing something familiar which everyone will know (although necessarily in this arrangement) and something unfamiliar. There will be something for everyone regardless of experience. All that is needed is a big heart and enthusiasm.
As Patsy Gilbert, one of the leaders, says ‘The Big Sing is everything I love about singing – everyone is encouraged to give it a go, anyone can take part and if the end product is always a bit raucous, Perfect.’
