Dragon Boat Challenge

Sunday 17th July 2011

Canbury Gardens, near Kingston Bridge

If you are looking for a great day out by the river then do not miss the annual Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge at Canbury Gardens, Kingston.

Hundreds of competitors in up to 48 teams battle it out on the river from 10 am to determine who makes it into the exciting six boat final at about 4 pm for the Challenge Cup.   Market stalls, sideshows and bouncy castles and rides for the kids go to make this a fun filled day, that each year raises thousands of pounds for local charities.

Our charity for 2010 was The River Thames Boat Project, which is a charity that gives richmond venturer copypeople of all ages the chance to access the Thames, discover the river, and learn more about its environment. Its specially adapted community barge, the Richmond Venturer , provides day and residential cruises, and acts as a floating classroom, for people of all ages and abilities from its berth in Kingston. Relying greatly on voluntary donations, the charity offers heavily subsidised voyages tailored to the needs and interests of children and adults with disabilities, community organisations, schools and adult education colleges, as well as individuals who are not part of any group. To find out more about their activities visit their website www.thamesboatproject.org.

If you wish to take part in the racing - no experience necessary and you will be given training (bouyancy aids, just in case) - then contact Glenis to obtain an entry form.
